Therese (“Terri”) M. Vaughan is a seasoned educator, corporate director, and internationally recognized expert in insurance regulation. She has served as one of Verisk's directors since 2013 and is Governance, Corporate Sustainability, and Nominating Committee chair.
Dr. Vaughan previously served as the professional director of the Vaughan Institute of Risk Management at the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business. Before joining the Vaughan Institute, she led Drake University’s College of Business and Public Administration, where she served as interim dean, dean, and executive in residence.
Dr. Vaughan has been CEO of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and spent more than ten years as Iowa Insurance Commissioner, the state’s first female and longest-serving insurance commissioner.
The Association of Professional Insurance Women (APIW) selected Dr. Vaughan as the 2014 Insurance Woman of the Year. Her other awards include being named among the Top 25 Living Legends in Insurance by National Underwriter magazine, 24 Insurance Industry Key Influencers by Best’s Review, and one of 2018’s Most Influential Corporate Directors by WomenInc. magazine.
Dr. Vaughan has coauthored two college textbooks on insurance and is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS), and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
She holds a PhD in risk and insurance from the University of Pennsylvania and a BBA in insurance and economics from the University of Iowa.
Dr. Vaughan currently serves as a director of AIG, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, West Bank, and the Food Bank of Iowa.
